Last year's Serendipity was such a success that there were requests to repeat it again this year. The health fair alone elicited several referrals to personal physicians and may have saved several lives. We are fortunate again, this year, to have Peggy McDaniel helping to plan the Health Fair.  Donna Mann already has several first class crafts lined up for sale.   There will be other surprises available for your enjoyment and good health.

This time last year we were hearing how the Nubians had won the State title in basketball, but nobody could explain what a Nubian was. Now we can find out for ourselves.   The Columbus Afrocentric Early College students will explain to us through dance, skits, music, and any other means they can, the meaning of the word Nubian.  You read correctly “Early College.”.The students graduate with two years of college to their credit!   Join us for a very "SERENDIPITOUS" day!

If you know someone who would like to set up a booth or sell their crafts with no rental fee, we would like to know by the end of February.   To display crafts, please contact  Donna Mann at 614-459-8023.  Health and other exhibits, contact Peggy McDaniel work:  614-781-0357 or cell 614-216-6779.

This event has been popular for over 10 years.  So, clean out your closets and cupboards and bring your findings to be bid on at the auction.  Lots of treasures are found at very reasonable prices. Jewelry, kitchen supplies, knick knacks, games, new clothes you can’t wear, collectables, etc.  Every year we are surprised at the items that cause bidders to “fight.”  The money collected will go to an educational fund.  This is a great time to join your colleagues for lunch, lots of fun, and help a worthy organization.

This year our money will go to an Endowment for the Treatment of Eating Disorders at Children’s Hospital in memory of Brittany Elizabeth Weixel.

Brittany died on June 5, 2005 after battling bulimia for several years.  She was 20 years old and a student at Otterbein University.  Her parents have set up this fund to educate parents  and students of the dangers of eating  disorders.  It will establish a hotline for children and continue to fund research.

Brittany’s mother, Lynn, is a graduate of Walnut Ridge High School and Capital University.  Her grandmother, Mary Westinghouse, graduated from South High School and Capital University and retired from Berwick Elementary School.  Mary has been an active member of CEA-R.  Let’s help them to turn this tragedy into a blessing for another family.

Step inside the exciting world of chocolate making - from the roots of the tree to the candy factory. This imaginative exhibition takes you on an  interactive journey through a giant flower dome, a 20-foot cacao pod, and a rainforest with cacao trees that brings life to the history, process and use of chocolate around the world. The exhibition ends at a life-size chocolate factory that involves you in the entire process of chocolate production.

The great Swedish naturalist, Carl Linnaeus, named the chocolate tree Theobroma cacao. It literally means “food of the gods” and is a fitting title for a plant that has held an important place in human culture. From its use as currency by the ancient Aztecs, to modern day decadent desserts, chocolate tells a fascinating story of people and plants. Explore our relationship to chocolate – from the roots of the tree to the candy factory.
