Attention: There is a possibility that we will change the hike location for Thursday, March 9, 2006. It is currently scheduled to be at Alum Creek State Park, but the leaders are considering hiking at Highbanks Metro Park instead. Please check your e-mail frequently for updates or phone Mary Ann (846-1097) or Janie (436-7811) the night before.

 

CEA-R HIKE SCHEDULE

February - March – April  2006

 Hikes begin at 10am on the second Thursday of each month Water, clothing in layers, and sturdy shoes are suggested.  Some hikers bring a change of shoes/socks in case of wet/muddy conditions and a hiking stick. We walk on designated trails, usually for 4-5 miles or 2 hours. Lunch at a nearby restaurant follows. We meet at the hike site, but carpooling is suggested.  Please donate $3 or more to the driver for out-of-town hikes.  FEBRUARY 9 – BLENDON WOODS METRO PARK

Directions: Blendon Woods is located east of I-270 in Westerville between Cherry Bottom Road and Little Turtle Way on Old State Route 161/East Dublin-Granville Road. Turn left at the park entrance.  Do not turn at the first parking area, but follow the road toward Walden Waterfowl Refuge. We will meet at the nature center parking lot, and restrooms there will be open. You may want to bring binoculars as the last part of the hike will take us to Thoreau Lake, and we will be able to stop at our cars to pick them up. We will be hiking a little over 4 miles on wide and well-marked trails.  Lunch will be at Cap City Diner in Stoneridge Shopping Center at Hamilton and Morse Road.  Leaders: Penny Davis-Bullard and Martha Peck

 MARCH 9 – ALUM CREEK STATE PARK

Directions: I-71 North to Polaris Parkway.  Exit and go right (east) on Polaris Parkway to Africa Road.  Turn left onto Africa Road and follow it about six miles to New Galena Boat Ramp and Picnic Area parking lot which is on the east side of the lake. Turn left off of Africa Road into the parking area. Use the first parking lot on the right which is the access to the multipurpose trail.  Pit toilets are across the drive.  The trail is on a mostly grassy and wide, flat path with views of meadow, lake, and woods.  The lunch location will be announced later.  APRIL 13 – CHESTNUT RIDGE METRO PARK

Directions: From I-270 take Rt.33 east about 10 miles toward Lancaster. Turn right at Winchester Rd. (Carroll, OH traffic light). There is a McDonald’s on the right (good restroom stop). Continue on Winchester Rd. about 3 miles to the entrance on the left. Go left to the second parking lot. There are pit toilets.  The nature trails are short but quite hilly in spots.  One overlook gives a view of the downtown Columbus skyline.  We will hike less than 4 miles. Lunch will be at Beef O’ Brady’s in Pickerington. Directions to restaurant from park: At park exit turn LEFT onto Winchester Road, turn right at Waterloo Rd., turn right at Hill Rd., turn left at Diley Rd., cross Rt. 33, and continue straight north on Diley Road to the Drug Mart Shopping Center at Hill Rd. N (Rt.256).  Turn right into the shopping center.  The restaurant is at the other end (797 Hill Rd. N.).  Leaders: Penny Davis-Bullard and Janie Reeves
