UNITED WAY RESULTS
PHOTOS WANTED
Do you love taking photos? Have you been taking some great photos of the CEA-R trips and tours that you would like to share? CEA-R would like to create an online photo album so other everyone can view them on the CEA-R webpage. If you want to help and learn how to upload your photos or you have photos to share, please contact Diane Hendrickson. We would prefer digital photos but we are also able to scan regular photographs.
50/50 Raffle Winners
The participation in our 50/50 raffle continues to be of great interest to those who attend the various activities. Winners from April 2005 through October 2005 were:
Lorena Long Sharon Krebs
Sherry Grimes Willa Mullins
Sandra Wood Anita Morris
We had 5 activities in which we did not conduct a 50/50. This happens when we are at the theater or on a trip such as Mackinac or where we do not all eat together. Two additional activities were cancelled due to insufficient registration.
The Executive Board voted to give $300 plus the 50/50 Raffle money through May 20, 2006 to the Juvenile Diabetes Association. On October 2, 2005 CEA-R members participated in the “Walk to Cure Diabetes” at Easton Town Center. JDRF is the largest world wide organization dedicated to finding a cure for diabetics. It was founded in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes.
DONATIONS
In December a CEA-R member learned about a family with children in CPS that may not have a Christmas. When the information was shared with the Board, they decided to help a single mother provide a Christmas for her six children. The children range in age from a few months to 8 years old. CEA-R members Karen Zellner and Diane Hendrickson took the mother shopping on December 12 to get clothing for each child plus lots of toys and games. The mother also received a Kroger gift card so she can shop for Christmas dinner. The family and the principal of Highland Elementary where two of the children attend school were very appreciative. The mother is enrolled in nursing classes at CSCC and has done well listening and taking notes in class.
At the September CEA-R Executive Board meeting, it was decided to donate the $2000 that was earned by CEA-R members, who volunteered at the souvenir tent at the Ohio State Fair, to help the children of the Katrina Hurricane victims who came to Columbus Public Schools. As of this date we are still attempting to locate the families.
CEA-R SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED
CEA-R awards a one-time Scholarship to a student of a retired or active teacher of CPS. The student will be chosen by the CEA Scholarship Committee who reviews the applications each year. The $500 Scholarship is presented at the annual CEA Banquet held in May.
CEA-R is pleased to have been able to award another one-time $500 scholarship to Kristinia S. Shenk, daughter of Mary Shenk a teacher at Broadleigh. The scholarship was awarded at the annual CEA Banquet in May 2005.
Kristina, who is a student at Clemson University, sent a thank you letter telling us how much the scholarship was appreciated.
CEA-R will award another scholarship to a student of a Columbus teacher again this year at the CEA Banquet
