CAPA VOLUNTEERS
The time has finally come!!! I know you have waited a
long time and I thank you so much for your patience. I am still having a time
getting dates in all the theaters but that just shows how busy we are. We are
ready to get the ball rolling and put on some new volunteers. This is not a
small commitment so we will start with the interviews. Once you have
successfully completed your interview you will move on to schedule an
orientation. I have not been able to get any weekend days for interviews or
orientations so I will try some daytime and evening times so that hopefully all
of you can find one that will fit your schedule.
You will need to call or email me back with the date you have selected and just
tell me if you will come between 2 - 5pm or 6 - 8pm. That will help me schedule
interviewing staff. You will need to bring $3 for a name badge (correct change
please)
Interviews are on March 28, 29 and 30 in the Shedd Lounge in the Riffe Center on
the Mezzanine Level. ( The Riffe Center is a State run facility so you will be
asked to check any bags or packages at the security desk (this does include
purses). The Riffe Center is at the corner of State and High Streets.
Interview Times are Tues., Wed. and Thurs. from 2 pm to 5 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm.
Parking is on your own (probably best to park in the City Centre Garage)
The interview should not take more than 10 or 15 minutes but the wait could be
longer than that if a lot of people come at the same time.
You must first go through this interview process to be invited to the next
orientation for becoming a CAPA Volunteer. Bring your calendar so if you are
going to go through an orientation you can schedule it at that time.
Thank you again for your patience and I hope to meet many of you later this
month. We are as excited as you are to finally get this process going.

RETIRED HOME SCHOOL TEACHER NEEDED
I am with a group of parents hoping to find a teacher--probably retired from public service--who would be interested in home schooling a group of 4-5 kids. These are middle school age children with alternative learning styles due to ADD or other neurological disorders, without behavior issues. Salary negotiable as is site; our home or teacher's. Interested families are in north Columbus/Westerville. Thank you.

Retired teachers still can touch the
future--one child at a time!
Your local

Linda Stephens, R.E.A.D. teacher at Main Elementary made a special request for retirees to volunteer.
The Ohio Judicial
Center is seeking volunteers to lead scheduled tours through the building,
sharing art and history with the public and school groups. Training is
provided. Please call Julie Carrier at 614-387-9223 or
Marilyn Allen at 614-299-4841 for more
information.
Built in the early 1930's as the Ohio
Departments Building, and restored seven decades later, the Ohio Judicial
Center stands as a monument to the history, culture, and commerce of Ohio.
Members of CEA-R toured this facility in January 2005.
The 16-story building, anchored on the east bank of the
Scioto River, is the new home of the Ohio Supreme Court. The art and
architecture are integrated to create a building that is functional and depicts
Ohio history. The inscriptions and symbols carved in marble and bronze,
and the muscular and mystic murals splashed across walls and ceilings, celebrate
all who shaped the state: presidents, jurists, the native peoples,
explorers, soldiers and artists.
HELP THE RED CROSS
Thanks so much for your help in getting the word out about volunteering to
offer childcare for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. At this point,
the large group of persons that we were expecting to come in today from the
area are not coming at this point. However, we would still like to
have names and contact information of individuals that would like to help
because we are still servicing individuals that have come to Ohio on their
own. Please remember that individuals must prove that they have been
background checked recently to be able to work with this vulnerable
population.
If you have any questions feel free to give me a call.
