Reggie Oliver is perhaps best known as the quarterback for Marshall University’s 1971 football team – a tragic season portrayed in the film, “We Are Marshall.”  Oliver was a freshman when Marshall’s varsity football team and coaching staff died in a plane crash.  As a  freshman, Reggie stayed home from that fateful trip.  Oliver could have transferred to another school, but chose to stay and help rebuild the Marshall football program in honor of his dead teammates.  Suddenly Reggie became the ‘senior’ member of the squad and was the starting quarterback until graduation.

Mr. Oliver went on to play professional football including a stint with the Dallas Cowboys and eventually returned to Marshall as an assistant coach.  He continued to enjoy a successful career at the college level and won several National Championships.

He began coaching in Columbus in 1997, holding posts at Eastmoor Academy and Crestview Middle School. He is now retired from Columbus City Schools.

Mr. Oliver attributes his success in life and on the football field to “3 Ds”:  Drive, Determination and Desire.

The National Road was one of the most significant achievements in the history of our great country….and after nearly 200 years, it’s still very important to us.

Vivian Brown, a retired teacher, will share her knowledge of the who, what, where and why of its original construction to today.  Lunch will be at the conclusion of Vivian’s presentation. Where else but on the National Road!

How many of you have a loved one that you would want notified immediately if you had an accident?  What if they have a different last name from yours and do not live at your residence?  How would they be located?  People react differently to tragedy.  Linda Wuestenberg reacted by making sure that others would not have to experience the heartbreak that she did.  Linda worked with the Ohio Legislature to get a bill passed faster than any bill ever passed through.  The bill provides a way that drivers can have a free, secure way to quickly unite loved ones in case of an accident.

Linda established a non-profit organization to educate citizens about the Ohio Next of Kin Database.  She will  be available after her presentation for anyone that would like to register.
